These employees will take no further action beyond notification of the authorities. This course is conducted in accordance with OSHA 29CFR 1910.120.

The HAZWOPER Awareness course is the basic level. It provides training and education to employees who participate, or are expected to participate, in emergency response operations for releases or threats of releases of hazardous substances without regard to hazard location or their hazard response level.

- Understand the potential outcomes associated with an emergency created when hazardous substances are present
- Gain the ability to recognize the presence of hazardous substances in an emergency
- Gain the ability to identify the hazardous substance, if possible
- Understand their role as a first responder at awareness level
- Understand how to notify the communication center for additional resources
