This Product is for those wishing to renew their OPITO Banksman and Slinger Competence or Banksman and Slinger Competence Reassessment certificate. Acquiring the Banksman and Slinger Competence Re- Assessment will confirm that you have maintained the competence requirement for the Banksman and Slinger role and that you hold re-established that you have retained the required knowledge, understanding and practical skills to fulfil the role of Banksman & Slinger safely and effectively. It refreshes the theory and practice of directing and controlling the movement of loads, and how to prepare and sling loads in an industry working environment, using various different types of slings and varying loads.

- Requirements:In addition to being medically fit, you must possess either:
A valid OPITO-approved Banksman and Slinger
or
Competence or Banksman and Slinger Competence Reassessment Certificate.
Note: If you possess an OPITO Banksman and Slinger Assessment or Re-Assessment Certificate which has expired by more than 6 months,
you will be required to attend the OPITO Banksman and Slinger Initial Training prior to undertaking the Banksman and Slinger Competence Assessment.
In these instances, there will be no requirement to complete a Work Experience Logbook.
Course Content
The theory and practical aspects of Preparation and Slinging of Loads including:
- Discussing the lifting plan and the risk assessment relevant to the lifting operation/s at the TBT with all the personnel involved in the task
- Using relevant information and instructions to accurately identify the weight of the load to be moved
- Choosing the slinging technique appropriate to the characteristics of the load and the intended lift
The theory and practical aspects of Directing and Controlling the Movement and Placing of Loads (Practical) including:
- Implementing the load-moving procedures effectively from the competent person’s lifting plan and risk assessment
- An understanding of the procedure to follow in the event of a general platform alarm
- An understanding of the company procedure for environmental conditions and the limits allowed
- Confirming signalling and communication methods with relevant personnel
- Awareness of permanent obstructions within the crane reach and working area
- Installing of barriers effectively to keep the lifting area clear
- Checking the load rating and size of the lay down area
