The CBR basic safety training for deckhands is meant for newcomers in inland shipping industry who have not worked on a ship before. Before you can work aboard an inland vessel, you must have completed the CBR basic safety training for deckhands. Once you have completed this training, you can apply for a seaman’s book with the deckhand function. During the course, you will learn about rescue equipment, firefighting equipment, specific working conditions, and the application of basic first aid on board an inland waterway vessel.
The course is conducted in Dutch.

Delegate has to be 16 years or older. We recommend having an inland navigation examination beforehand, this is not compulsory.

Throughout the basic training, you will learn how to handle various tools on board your vessel and how to respond in case of injuries and firefighting. The CBR course meets the Standards for the basic safety training for deckhands set by CESNI (Decision: CESNI 2021-I-1) and the directive (EU) 2017/2397. Anyone can take the training as long as they are 16 years or older, and no prior knowledge is required to participate. Upon completion of the training, you will receive a certificate recognized by the CBR. Based on this certificate and a valid medical examination, you can apply for a seaman’s book with the EU qualification ‘Deckhand’.
