CBR Basic Safety Training for Deckhands – Shortened with BHV and EHV
BookLast booked 18 minutes agoThis CBR training is for participants who are new to inland shipping and possess a BHV (Basic Emergency Response) and EHV (Extended Emergency Response) certificate not older than 12 months, and not solely obtained online.
Before you can start working on an inland vessel, you must have completed the CBR basic safety training for deckhands. Once you finish this training, you can apply for a logbook with the position of deckhand. During the course, you will learn about rescue equipment, firefighting equipment, specific working conditions, and the application of basic first aid on board an inland waterway vessel.

More information about the Basic Safety Training for Deckhands During the basic training, you will acquire the necessary skills to work as a deckhand in inland shipping. This CBR course complies with the Standards for the basic safety training for deckhands set by CESNI (Decision: CESNI 2021-I-1) and the directive (EU) 2017/2397. Upon completion of the training, you will receive a CBR-recognized certificate. Based on this certificate and a valid medical examination, you can apply for a logbook with the EU qualification ‘Deckhand’. If you have an EHV and BHV certificate not older than 12 months obtained from a Dutch organization, you will be exempted, except for the following components:
- Use of rescue equipment to prevent drowning
- Specific working conditions on board a vessel
- Risks on board due to noise
Handling hazardous substances on board a vessel The exemption can only be obtained if the BHV and EHV courses were not solely conducted online. The exemption applies to approximately 5 hours. The participant will still need to complete at least 2 training days (minimum of 14 hours) of the basic safety training for deckhands.
