More info

The GWO First Aid (Global Wind Organisation) course is intended for everyone working in the wind industry. With the help of the GWO First Aid course, the delegate will specifically learn what kind of injuries they might sustain and how they can provide themselves and colleagues with first aid. Knowing the functions of the human body is essential and can possibly save lives.

During this GWO First Aid course, we will focus on limited access and entrances and exits in a wind turbine. In this First Aid course, both theoretical and practical aspects will be discussed. In the theoretical part everything about the human body will be discussed and you will also learn how to proceed in an emergency. In the practical part of the GWO First Aid course, all practices will be demonstrated to allow the delegate to get acquainted with this.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is GWO?

GWO stands for ‘Global Wind Organisation’. It is a non-profit organisation and has provided the Basic Safety Training standards for the wind industry since 2012.

What is the window to join a GWO refresher?

To maintain the original certification date, a certificate or training record can be renewed up to two months prior to expiry. It is still possible to join a refresher course outside of the two months of expiry. In this case, the certificate must carry the new date of certification. A participant is only allowed to attend a refresher course in the specific training module prior to the date of expiry on the current certificate or training records. The validity period is automatically calculated in WINDA by entering the course completion date.

What does the GWO First Aid course consist of?

Throughout this course, the delegate will be taught about the dangers of working in a windturbine and what this means for the safety and potential injury of someone working in this environment. Furthermore they will learn how to recognise wounds and diseases and how they can be treated and how to provide First Aid in life-threatening situations. The GWO First Aid Course is also part of the GWO Basic Safety Training.

How is the GWO First Aid course taught?

The First Aid GWO course consists of a theoretical and practical part.

    What does WINDA stand for?

WINDA is the name of the Global Wind Industry Training Records Database. It maintains data on the certification status of GWO Certified Training Providers as well as the status of delegates that have attended courses. The delegate is required to create an account for WINDA, as a sticker and registration are added in WINDA upon succesful completion of a course.

Click here to create an account in WINDA. Upon succesful registration, the user receives a WINDA ID. The WINDA ID is required for us to add the GWO Course to the account of a delegate, including the Basic Training Course.

The employer also has the option of creating an account, allowing them to verify the training status of their (potential) employees.

For more information about the organisation account, click here.

For more information about the delegate account, click here.

At what time does training take place?

Training takes place between 7:30 and 16:00 (7:30 AM and 4:00 PM). Anyone participating is required to be present at the training centre at 7:30. When a delegate is late they have to make up for lost time and will be charged for this. The client will be notified.

Is lunch included in the course or should I bring this myself?

Lunch is provided by FMTC. You can choose from several freshly made sandwiches, soup, snacks and fruit. Tea and coffee are also available.

What do I need to bring to this course?

If you have a Personal Safety Logbook and/or Seaman book, you must bring them in order to have them updated. The required safety materials are provided for by FMTC.

Note that you will be notified of all required materials in the confirmation e-mail when booking the course.

In which language is this course taught?

All our courses are taught in English. When there are only Dutch participants the course will be held in Dutch.

On which date is this course available for booking?

All the green dates on the calendar on the course page are available. This is a real-time display of the available dates.

At what time should I book a flight back?

We advise you to book your flight 2 hours after the end of the course, at a minimum.

Do I need a physical examination for this course?

GWO courses do not require an examination.

How do I book a physical examination?

When a physical examination is required, this can be noted on the same booking form. If the course has already been booked, you can send an e-mail or call us to let us know.

When will I have my physical examination if I booked this through FMTC?

After the booking, you will receive a confirmation. In the meantime, a request will be sent to the doctor. The doctor will plan the physical examination. On the following work day at the latest, you will receive the confirmation of your appointment with date, time and location.

How can I book a hotel?

When you want to book a hotel, this can be indicated on the same booking form. If the course has already been booked, you can send an e-mail to info@fmtcsafety.com or call us on +31(0)85 – 130 74 61 to help you further.
