Refresher training intended for anyone on board a ship, subject to the STCW code, who holds a valid basic safety training certificate for which revalidation is required.
During Basic Safety Training, you will update the knowledge required to:
- Take the necessary measures in the event of abandonment of a ship, apply individual survival techniques at sea (STCW Personal Survival Techniques)
- Minimize the risk of fire and fight more effectively against a fire on board (STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting)
- Apply emergency procedures, prevent pollution of the marine environment, observe safer work practices, communicate more effectively. (STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities)
Long refresher training is intended for trainees who cannot justify prior TIS and FBLI training received on board/ On place of work during the 5 years preceding the refresher request.

The CFBS is a mandatory safety training for anyone wishing to take up employment on board a professional vessel.
The CFBS is valid for 5 years and you must follow a CFBS Refresher every 5 years to update your knowledge and revalidate your certification.
Your safety refresher training will consist of theoretical lessons but also practical exercises. It will allow you to upgrade your knowledge to work aboard a ship in complete safety and act safely in case of various possible emergency situations.
FMTC Safety has obtained approval to deliver the CFBS – STCW 2010 – Rules VI/1 and VI/4 – Sections A-VI/1 and A-VI and the EFA module Level 1 (EM1) , (Initial and refresher) by decision of the Inter-regional Department of the Sea (DIRM) of July 04, 2022.
