The extended First Aid course of the Red Cross elaborates more on the material about First Aid than the basic course. You also learn how to provide First Aid for more different accidents and injuries. These classroom trainings prepare you for real life situations together with your fellow students. Theoretical lessons will be alternated with practical assignments. Furthermore it is possible to, after completing this course, provide First Aid at events as a Red Cross volunteer. This is the most extended course about providing First Aid the Red Cross offers.

After completing the extended First Aid course well, you will get a European certified Red Cross certificate. This certificate is valid for 2 years. Furthermore you can take the First Aid course book home with you, which means you can look at the theory at any other moment if you want to. This course takes 2,5 days and only has classroom lessons. Every participator has to sign up individually.

Course content:

Just like the basic First Aid course, the core element of this course is how to bring a victim to safety, how to evaluate the condition of the victim and alarming the emergency services. Besides you will learn how to:

• Perform resuscitation with a cardiac arrest. You will use a resuscitation dummy to practice this.
• Work with an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)

Furthermore you will learn how to provide First Aid with:

• Wounds and bleeding
• Unconsciousness
• Choking
• A stroke
• Fainting or a concussion
• Insect bite
• Dyspnea and hyperventilation
• Hypothermia or overheating
• Diabetes
• Epilepsy and seizures
• Injuries to bones, muscles or joints
• Chest pains.

After finishing this course you will know how to handle when a victim suffers from one of these emergencies.
