OPITO Banksman Re-Assessment (Stage 4) (9069)

This product is intended for individuals wishing to renew their OPITO Banksman and Slinger Competence or Banksman and Slinger Competence Reassessment certificate. Obtaining the Banksman and Slinger Competence Reassessment confirms that you have maintained the competence requirements for the Banksman and Slinger role and demonstrates that you have retained the necessary knowledge, understanding, and practical skills to perform the role of Banksman & Slinger safely and effectively. The course refreshes the theory and practical application of directing and controlling the movement of loads, as well as how to prepare and sling loads in an industrial work environment using various types of slings and a range of different loads.

• Requirements:In addition to being medically fit, you must have one of the following:
  A valid OPITO-approved Banksman and Slinger certificate
  or
  A Banksman and Slinger Competence or Competence Reassessment Certificate.
  
  Note: If you hold an OPITO Banksman and Slinger Assessment or Reassessment Certificate that has been expired for more than 6 months,
  you will be required to complete the OPITO Banksman and Slinger Initial Training before taking the Banksman and Slinger Competence Assessment.
  In these cases, there is no requirement to complete a Work Experience Logbook.
  

Course Content

The theoretical and practical aspects of Preparing and Slinging Loads, including:

• Discussing the lift plan and the risk assessment relevant to the lifting operation(s) during the TBT with all personnel involved in the task
• Using relevant information and instructions to accurately determine the weight of the load to be moved
• Selecting the slinging technique appropriate to the characteristics of the load and the intended lift

The theoretical and practical aspects of Directing and Controlling the Movement and Placement of Loads (Practical), including:

• Effectively implementing load-moving procedures based on the competent person’s lift plan and risk assessment
• Understanding the procedure to follow in the event of a general platform alarm
• Understanding the company’s procedures for environmental conditions and the permitted limits
• Confirming signaling and communication methods with relevant personnel
• Awareness of permanent obstructions within the crane’s reach and working area
• Effectively installing barriers to keep the lifting area clear
• Checking the load rating and size of the laydown area
