More information on the OPITO Banksman & Slinger Initial Training

During the OPITO Banksman & Slinger Initial Training, basic knowledge is shared in theoretical and practical form. All learned theoretical material will also be practiced during practical lessons. The certificate is valid for 2 years.

After completing the OPITO Banksman Slinger course, the student will receive a logbook. The banksman and slinger activities that are carried out offshore must be recorded in this logbook in order to gain relevant experience in the workplace.

After completing the logbook with banksman and slinging operations, the student may participate in the OPITO Banksman & Slinger Competence Assessment. This course is established to show that the participant has the required knowledge, understanding and skills to fulfil the role of Banksman and Slinger. This certificate is valid for two years. Before the expiry date an OPITO Banksman & Slinger Competence Reassessment has to be done to extend its validity with another two years.

OPITO Banksman & Slinger Stage 1 is now OPITO Banksman & Slinger Initial Training

In February 2022 OPITO has changed the OPITO Banksman & Slinger standards. The Banksman & Slinger Stage 1 course is now the OPITO Banksman & Slinger Initial Training. Besides the change in the OPITO Banksman Slinger Stage 1 course, there were also changes to the standards of Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 4 of the Banksman & Slinger. Banksman & Slinger Stage 2 has been removed from the program. Stage 3 is now OPITO Banksman and Slinger Competence Assessment and Stage 4 has been changed to OPITO Banksman & Slinger Competence Reassessment.

How long does the OPITO Banksman & Slinger Initial Training certificate remain valid?

The certificate is valid for 2 years. Within those two years you have to have finished the Banksman & Slinger Competence Assessment. After 2 more years you have to do the OPITO Banksman & Slinger Competence Reassessment.

At what times does training take place?

The training starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends at approximately 4.00 p.m.

Do I need a medical examination for this course?

OPITO courses do not require an examination.

How many days does the course take?

The course takes 3 days. During these 3 days all theory and practical assignments will be done at our training center.

Yes. OPITO has changed the course standards and renamed the OPITO Banksman & Slinger Stage 1 course to the OPITO Banksman & Slinger Initial Training. If you want to do the Banksman & Slinger Stage 1 course, you should book the Banksman & Slinger Initial Training.

Why has the name of this course changed?

Previously the OPITO Banksman & Slinger Inital Training was called OPITO Banksman & Slinger Stage 1 course. In February 2022 OPITO changed the course standards of the OPITO Banksman & Slinger Stage 1 course. This name did not fit the new standards, which is why they have changed it to Banksman & Slinger Initial Training.
