During the Sea Survival course, several theoretical aspects will be discussed in regards to survival at sea. The theory is also practiced. For example, various exercises will be done in our swimming pool, to make the exercise as realistic as possible. Because of the realistic exercises in this GWO Sea Survival, everything will be remembered better and the delegate is well prepared in case of risky situations.

More information about GWO Sea Survival
The GWO Sea Survival course is offered according to the guidelines of the Global Wind Organisation. After following the course, which will take one day, the delegate will be able to put him/herself and colleagues to safety during possible dangerous sea conditions, this way, every delegate contributes to a safer working environment during offshore activities.
There is also a GWO Basic Safety Training Course which offers this GWO Sea Survival together with GWO First Aid, GWO Working at Heights, GWO Fire Awareness and GWO Manual Handling.
Course Content:
- Personal safety
- Dangers and symptoms of drowning and hypothermia
- Securely moving a vessel to dock, vessel to platform and vessel to vessel
- Use of LSA, PPE and PFPE equipment and the advantages / limitations of these
- Survival Techniques at Sea
- SAR, GMDSS and first aid in case of a man overboard
- Evacuation procedures

What is GWO?
GWO stands for ‘Global Wind Organisation’. It is a non-profit organisation and has provided the Basic Safety Training standards for the wind industry since 2012.
What is the window to join a GWO refresher?
To maintain the original certification date, a certificate or training record can be renewed up to two months prior to expiry. It is still possible to join a refresher course outside of the two months of expiry. In this case, the certificate must carry the new date of certification. A participant is only allowed to attend a refresher course in the specific training module prior to the date of expiry on the current certificate or training records. The validity period is automatically calculated in WINDA by entering the course completion date.
What does the GWO Sea Survival Training Course consist of?
Throughout this course, the delegate will be taught how to react in dangerous and risky situations at sea, how to get themselves and their colleagues to safety, the dangers of drowning and hypothermia, providing first aid in case of a man overboard and much more. The GWO Sea Survival Training Course is also part of the GWO Basic Safety Training Course.
How is the GWO Sea Survival Training course taught?
The GWO Sea Survival Training course consists of a theoretical and practical part. Some of the practical training will take place in the swimming pool on location to get a realistic sense of the situations you may be exposed to.
What does WINDA stand for?
WINDA is the name of the Global Wind Industry Training Records Database. It maintains data on the certification status of GWO Certified Training Providers as well as the status of delegates that have attended courses. The delegate is required to create an account for WINDA, as a sticker and registration are added in WINDA upon succesful completion of a course. No certificate is provided.
Click here to create an account in WINDA. Upon succesful registration, the user receives a WINDA ID. The WINDA ID is required for us to add the GWO Course to the account of a delegate, including the Basic Training Course.
The employer also has the option of creating an account, allowing them to verify the training status of their (potential) employees.

At what times does training take place?
Training takes place between 7:30 and 16:00 (7:30 AM and 4:00 PM). Anyone participating is required to be present at the training centre at 7:30. Any who are not will be charged for lost time. The client will be notified.
Is food provided for or should I bring this myself?
Lunch is provided by FMTC. Tea and coffee are also available.
What do I need to bring to this course?
If you have a Personal Safety Logbook and/or Seaman book, you must bring them in order to have them updated. You will also need swimming trunks for underneath the survival gear, as well as an extra set of dry clothes and towel. The required safety materials are provided for by the FMTC.
Note that you will be notified of all required materials in the confirmation e-mail when booking the course.
In which language is this course taught?
All our courses are taught in English.
On which date is this course available for booking?
All the green dates on the calendar on the course page are available. This is a real-time display of the available dates.
At what time should I book a flight back?
We advise you to book your flight 2 hours after the end of the course, at a minimum.
Do I need a physical examination for this course?
GWO courses do not require an examination.
How do I book a physical examination?
When a physical examination is required, this can be noted on the same booking form. If the course has already been booked, you can send an e-mail or call us to let us know.
When will I have my physical examination if I booked this through FMTC?
After the booking, you will receive a confirmation. In the meantime, a request will be sent to the doctor. The doctor will plan the physical examination. On the following work day at the latest, you will receive the confirmation of your appointment with date, time and location.
How can I book a hotel?
When a hotel is required, this can be indicated on the same booking form. If the course has already been booked, you can send an e-mail or call us to let us know.
