More information about the Basic Safety Training for Deckhands During the basic training, you will acquire the necessary skills to work as a deckhand in inland shipping. This CBR course complies with the Standards for the basic safety training for deckhands set by CESNI (Decision: CESNI 2021-I-1) and the directive (EU) 2017/2397. Upon completion of the training, you will receive a CBR-recognized certificate. Based on this certificate and a valid medical examination, you can apply for a logbook with the EU qualification ‘Deckhand’. If you have a valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificate, you will be exempted except for the following components:

• Safe movement on board a vessel
• Handling ropes and wires
• Risks due to exposure to noise

This exemption applies to a maximum of 2 out of the 3 training days. The participant will still need to complete at least 1 training day (minimum of 7 hours) of the basic safety training for deckhands.
