More information about NOGEPA 2.15 Management of Major Emergencies (Formal Assessment)

Our NOGEPA 2.15 Management of Major Emergencies (Formal Assessment) is designed to formally assess the ability of delegates to demonstrate effective leadership during major emergencies on offshore mining installations. This assessment is specifically intended for Offshore Installation Managers (OIMs) or key personnel who are part of an Emergency Management Team. The assessment focuses on evaluating the delegate’s performance in managing real-time emergency scenarios in a simulated control room environment.

We recommend that delegates complete either the NOGEPA 2.14A Management of Major Emergencies or the NOGEPA 2.14B Management of Major Emergencies course prior to taking this formal assessment. If a delegate already holds a valid NOGEPA certificate, we advise participating in the optional first day of this assessment for additional practice and familiarization.

During the assessment, each delegate will participate in at least three control room simulations, acting as the OIM. These simulations cover class A, B, and C emergencies, ranging from readily controllable situations to scenarios that require full abandonment of the installation. Delegates are not informed in advance about the details of the simulations, ensuring a realistic and challenging assessment environment. Before enrolling, delegates must provide written evidence of their qualification to act as an OIM and demonstrate prior experience in leading emergency preparedness on an offshore mining installation.

The assessment typically spans two days: the first day is optional and focuses on refreshing knowledge and practicing with the facilities, while the second day is dedicated to the formal assessment itself. Upon successful completion, delegates receive their offshore installation manager certification from FMTC Safety.
