Our NOGEPA 2.9A Helicopter Firefighting training is designed for offshore personnel who are assigned as Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) or Helicopter Deck Assistant (HDA) on installations where forming a full firefighting team is not possible and helicopter fuel loading does not take place. This course is ideal for small platforms with limited staff, where the HLO or HDA must be prepared to respond to helicopter emergencies. Participants will gain the essential skills and knowledge to handle helicopter fires and carry out rescue operations effectively, both through theoretical instruction and hands-on practice.
The training covers firefighting techniques and rescue procedures for various helicopter fire scenarios, including engine fires, cockpit or cabin fires, baggage compartment incidents, and liquid fires resulting from fuel leaks. With the latest update to the NOGEPA Handbook, the course now includes a new module on the use of breathing apparatus, and the duration has been extended by an additional half day to accommodate this important component. All participants are required to bring a valid government-issued photographic ID, a valid offshore medical certificate, and an additional medical certificate for wearing a breathing apparatus.
This course is intended for those who do not already hold a valid NOGEPA 2.6 Member Fire-Fighting and Rescue Team certificate or NOGEPA 2.8 Leader Fire-Fighting and Rescue Team certificate. Successful completion ensures that HLOs and HDAs are fully prepared to respond to helicopter emergencies on small offshore platforms.
