The aim of this training is to refresh the learner’s prior knowledge, skills, and abilities to enable learners, through practical training, to be able to maintain a high standard of safety awareness in the offshore wind industry. This refresher training ensures that learners remain up to date with the latest best practices, techniques, procedures and emergency response protocols required for wind industry operations. The course focuses on filling gaps in knowledge, skills or abilities and where possible, enhancing the knowledge and practical skills necessary to act safely and taking appropriate preventive measures in an offshore wind turbine environment.
The refresher training is split into four sections; Introduction, Skills stations, Scenario training and a training review.
During the introduction the following topics will be covered; relevant information about the training center and its facilities, emergency response, house rules, course content, duration of the modules, training and assessment methods and any other expectations delegates may have.
After the introduction there are the Skill stations, this is a section with practical exercises in which learners demonstrate, apply, and explain specific skills under instructor observation. Throughout the skill station, they receive feedback from both peers and instructors to ensure competency.
Upon completion of the Skill stations, the delegates will participate in Scenario training. This section will simulate real workplace situations, allowing learners to apply and refresh their basic safety knowledge, skills and abilities in a practical and industry-relevant context. These immersive exercises reinforce learning while enhancing learners’ understanding and practical application of key skills.
The training then concludes with a training review. The aim of which is to enable the delegates to think about and process their learning outcome and key takeaways from the training, aiming to achieve a high learning transfer from the training to their way of working.
This course meets the requirements for ongoing employment in the wind industry and is intended to ensure the learners’ are able to take the appropriate actions during an emergency situation. The training is aligned with the Global Wind Organisation standards, ensuring international recognition and compliance within the wind energy industry.
GWO does not offer any dispensation; without a valid Initial or Refresher certificate, learners cannot attend a Refresher course and must instead complete Initial GWO Basic Safety Training again.
