More information about STCW Basic Safety Training Fishery

Our STCW Basic Safety Training Fishery course is designed specifically for professionals working on board fishing vessels, ensuring compliance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). This training is mandatory for all seafarers with designated safety or pollution-prevention duties, including deck crew, engine crew, stewards, officers, and other operational staff. The course is approved by the national flagstate and tailored to meet the unique safety requirements of the fishing industry, adding the essential “Safety for Fishing” component to the standard Basic Safety Training.

Upon successful completion of the STCW Basic Safety Training Fishery, participants receive an internationally recognized STCW certificate that fulfills the requirements of Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-1 to A-VI/1-4, Chapter VI of the STCW Convention, 1978 as amended, including the Manila 2010 Amendments. This certificate also complies with Article 8.30a and Appendix G of the Seafarers Regulation and is valid for five years. To maintain certification, refresher training is required every five years, focusing on practical modules to ensure ongoing competence in safety procedures and emergency response.

The training covers the specific risks associated with work on fishing vessels, including general and operational safety, accident prevention, and the hazards linked to various fishing methods. There are no prerequisites beyond the requirement for seafarers to hold designated safety or pollution-prevention duties.
