The OPITO BOSIET with CA-EBS (5750) provides initial offshore safety and emergency response training for personnel who are required to travel to and from offshore installations by helicopter and who will be supplied with a Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) during helicopter transit. The course focuses on offshore safety, emergency response and the correct use of CA-EBS in both dry and shallow-water conditions.
Participants learn about helicopter travel procedures and practise how to respond to emergency situations, including helicopter ditching and underwater escape. The training also covers sea survival, emergency first aid, firefighting and self-rescue. The FMTC course specifically includes CA-EBS and does not cover EBS.
The OPITO Travel Safely by Boat Initial Training (5605) adds the knowledge and practical skills required for personnel who travel and transfer by boat to offshore installations. Participants learn about the risks involved in offshore boat travel, the safety rules that apply during transit and transfer, and the actions to take during boat-related emergencies.
The training also covers the correct use of personal flotation equipment, preparing for a boat emergency, abandonment procedures and survival techniques following abandonment. Practical training includes transfer procedures using simulated boat and offshore installation environments.
By combining the two programmes, participants receive training covering offshore travel and emergency response for both helicopter and boat transportation.
