Yes, in the ‘Labour Law’ it says that every employer is obliged to be well-prepared for accidents, fire and evacuation and therefore is obliged of having an ERO.
No, despite your First Aid certificate, an ERO must be present at your company at all times. The reason is that during ERO courses, you are trained to extinguish fires as well.
The amount of ERO’s depends on the potential risks that could occur. There must be at least one ERO present at all times to take action in case of an emergency.
The course consists of 5 modules: GWO First Aid, GWO Working at Heights, GWO Sea Survival, GWO Fire Awareness and GWO Manual Handling. They can be taken separately or together.
After registering for GWO Basic Safety Training E-learning, the delegate receives access to online teaching material by e-mail immediately.
GWO stands for ‘Global Wind Organisation’. It is a non-profit organisation and has provided the Basic Safety Training standards for the wind industry since 2012.
WINDA is the registration system of GWO where they can keep track of alle the courses per person. When the delegate completes his GWO course, we add the course in WINDA. The delegate doesn’t receive a certificate of the course, only a sticker and the registration in WINDA.
First the delegate has to create an account at WINDA. Click here to create this WINDA account. After the registration, the delegate receives a WINDA ID. We need the WINDA ID to add the GWO course into the account of the delegate. Every GWO course is registered separately. When the delegate takes the GWO Basic Safety Training for example, he or she will be registered five times, because there are five seperate courses.
There is also a WINDA account for the employer, so he can check all the employees in WINDA.
For more information about the organization account click here.
For more information about the delegate account click here.
Unfortunately, you can not attend the refresher courses when your GWO certificate is expired. You have to take the basic GWO course again. Unfortunately GWO doesn’t have anything like dispensation like the offshore courses.
GWO stands for Global Wind Organization and is since 2012 the standard for the people working in the wind industry, both onshore and offshore. GWO is formed by a cooperation between several large players in the wind industry.
If you hold a valid Certificate of Competency (CoC) and/or have sufficient sailing experience, either 365 days within the past 5 years or at least 3 months within the past 6 months, you may be eligible to join the refresher course. It is important to note that your original certificate will serve as the reference when issuing the renewed certificate. The new certificate will maintain the original expiration date, with 5 years added to it. Please be aware that certificates expired for more than 5 years are not eligible. Are you not sure if you can participate in the refresher course? Please contact us or call +31 (0) 85 130 74 61 and we can help you further.
Yes, all of our STCW courses are instructed according to the Manila Amendments 2010. The Manila Amendments describe the guidelines for training seafarers.
In case you are going to work in the maritime sector an STCW Basic Safety Training is required. On this page you can find more information about the content of this course.
The certificates with STCW certification are mostly valid for a period of five years. These have to be renewed in time in order to keep them valid. In the period of five years you are ought to have been on a ship for at least 365 days.
When you aren’t certain about when your certificate expires, you could always look on the certificate. The expiration date should be on there.
Without a valid medical certificate, it is not allowed to work in the offshore sector, as a sailor or in the wind sector.
Depending on where you work, it may take longer for emergency services to be on site and can, if necessary, take you to earth. Therefore good health is a prerequisite, not only for yourself but also for your colleagues. If your medical certificate expires right after you are about to land again, please book a medical exam before going to work! In the event of force majeure, it may happen that you are away from home for a longer period of time and therefore not validly examined.
Since April 2015, it is also required to be in possession of a shoulder measurement certificate if you are traveling by helicopter (from England).
Regular tests take about half an hour. If an additional examination is required, the test may take longer.
When you fly on a helicopter from England a shoulder measurement must have been done. This shoulder measurement measures the breadth of the shoulders. When the shoulder breadth is more than 55,9 cm (22″) it will be seen as extra wide (XBR). If this is the case the person with the extra wide shoulders should sit next to a window and he will get a chair which is customized to his shoulder breadth. When you have a shoulder measurement of less than 55,9 cm (non XBR) you will be placed in the helicopter in the regular way.
We can make sure that you are examined before the course begins to obtain a medical certificate. When you book the course you can indicate this in the booking form. For more information read on on the page medical examination at FMTC.
Participants of a course with special needs like, language problems, physical or medical limitations or special care concerning religion or culture have to indicate so on the booking form. Note that if no additional agreements are made with the organisation, additional costs will be charged.
For various courses, you need to be in possession of a valid medical certificate. If this is the case, it’s indicated at the course. In case you do not have such a certificate yet, FMTC can provide you with a medical examination. You can request for this in the booking form. Click here for more information.
All participants are required to sign a form on which is stated that the participant is fit enough from a medical point of view to take part in all parts of the course.
You can download the request for dispensation form here: Request for Dispensation. You can use this form if you want to request for dispensation in case your NOGEPA certificate is expired.
When your NOGEPA certificate is not valid anymore, it’s not possible to just take the refresher course. Via NOGEPA you have to request for dispensation. You can do that trough the following form: Request for Dispensation.
When your OPITO certificate is expired you can’t just take the refresher course. If your OPITO BOSIET is expired, you have to take this course again. Only when your OPITO FOET certificate is expired, you can submit a request for dispensation till 3 months after the expiry date. You can download the request for dispensation form here. When you have filled out the form, please send it to info@fmtcsafety.com.
When the dispensation is approved you can do the OPITO FOET course again.
In order to work offshore you have to have completed the course of NOGEPA 0.5A Basic Offshore Safety or the OPITO BOSIET course at least. Your employer can give you an indication of which courses you need to complete, because it may vary depending on your employer.
On the Dutch continental plate you are allowed to work for a maximum of 14 consecutive days on an offshore installation. After this period of time you have to rest for a minimum of 14 days.

You are expected to be at the training location of FMTC at 7.30 a.m.
You have to refresh the course before your certificate is expired. This means that you have to train before the expiration date. NOPEGA and OPITO have a so called 3 months window. This means that you can come and train at FMTC 3 months before your expiration date, while preserving your current expiration date.
For example: Your NOGEPA 0.5A certificate expires on 6 July 2020, then you can already take the NOGEPA 0.5B from 6 April 2020. When you for example take the course on the 20th of April 2020 your new expiration date becomes 6 July 2024.
Our goal is to never cancel a course and so far, we’ve successfully achieved that! However, please note that some trainings require a minimum number of participants due to the practical exercises involved.
