HAZWOPER Technician Level E-learning

This HAZWOPER Technician Level course is for employees who may have the role of emergency responder during a hazardous substance emergency and may respond offensively to a release with the intent of stopping it. In this E-Learning HAZWOPER Technician Level course, learners will understand the role of a Hazardous Materials Technician and be provided with information to increase their competencies in the topics required by OSHA in 29 CFR 1910.120(q). Topics include responsibilities related to HAZWOPER response, such as the incident command system, emergency response plan, medical surveillance and decontamination. Additionally, learners will review hazard and risk assessment techniques, material identification, classification and verification methods, air monitoring, control, containment, and confinement and the proper handling of drums and containers.

Initial training for hazardous materials technicians must include 24 hours of training, so this 8-hour course is intended for learners who have already completed 16 hours of training towards the technician level competency, including 8 hours of training at the HAZWOPER Operations Level. For Hazardous Materials Technician employees requiring refresher training, this 8-hour course may be taken alone.  Upon completion of the training modules, learners will complete a knowledge assessment. Those who complete this training may also be required to be evaluated by their employer to ensure understanding of the information provided.
