GWO Service Lift Training provides both theoretical and practical instruction to equip wind technicians with the skills to safely use, operate, inspect, maintain, install, repair, and evacuate service lifts in WTGs. It takes a pragmatic, generic approach to different lift systems and is designed for personnel who rely on lifts for transporting people and equipment inside wind turbines.

The GWO Service Lift Training course ensures that wind industry personnel are fully trained to safely operate service lifts used for transporting workers between turbine platforms. It provides the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform lift-related tasks safely and efficiently, while promoting responsibility for personal and team safety during lift operations.

Related courses aligned with this Standard include the Service Lift Inspection and Maintenance Module and the Service Lift Installation, Inspection, and Repair Module. Additional relevant training includes GWO Basic Safety Training, GWO Working at Heights, and GWO First Aid.

The GWO Service Lift Refresher course is required every two years and is designed to update and reassess participants’ knowledge, practical skills, safety procedures, emergency response, and proper PPE use.

Participants must bring:

  • Valid ID/proof of identity
  • Weather-appropriate clothing for indoor and outdoor activities
  • Comfortable, durable clothing suitable for physical tasks (e.g., long sleeves and trousers)
  • All necessary PPE will be provided during the course
