The STCW BST & AFF Refresher course is designed for seafarers who need to renew their STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) and Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) certificates in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). This training is essential for all crew members with designated safety or pollution-prevention duties, as well as officers and personnel responsible for leading or coordinating fire-fighting operations on board. Our courses are approved by the national flagstate and follow the latest STCW requirements to ensure compliance and global recognition.
The refresher training is mandatory every five years for both BST and AFF certificates. It focuses on practical skills and up-to-date procedures, ensuring participants maintain the competencies required for safe and effective operations at sea. To enroll, participants must present valid identification, a medical certificate, swimming gear, their seafarer’s book, and proof of previous BST and AFF certification. Eligibility for the refresher is based on holding a valid Certificate of Competency, proof of at least 365 days of sea service in the last five years, or at least three months of sea service in the past six months. The renewed certificate will be valid for five years from the expiry date of the previous certificate.
Our training covers all practical modules required by the STCW Convention, including personal survival techniques, fire prevention and fire fighting, elementary first aid, and personal safety and social responsibilities. The Advanced Fire Fighting component further develops leadership and command skills for managing onboard fire emergencies. Upon successful completion, participants receive internationally recognized certificates that meet STCW standards. It is important to share all required documentation with our customer support team before enrolling, so eligibility can be verified and the process runs smoothly.
