The CBR Basic Training Safety for Deckhands is designed for individuals entering the inland shipping industry who have not previously worked on a vessel. This essential training is a mandatory requirement before starting work aboard an inland waterway vessel. Participants will gain hands-on experience with rescue and firefighting equipment, learn about specific working conditions on board, and understand the application of basic first aid in a maritime environment. Upon successful completion of the training, participants receive a certificate recognized by the CBR, which, together with a valid medical examination, allows them to apply for a seaman’s book with the official EU qualification of ‘Deckhand’.
Our course fully complies with the CESNI standards (Decision: CESNI 2021-I-1) and the EU directive (EU) 2017/2397, ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met. The training is accessible to anyone aged 16 or older, with no prior maritime experience necessary. For those who already hold BHV and EHV certifications, we offer the CBR Basic Safety Training for Deckhands Shortened with BHV and EHV. This course can also be provided in English on request.
