The STCW CFBS Refresher (Without Medical 1) – Short Format is designed for seafarers and professional yacht crew who need to renew their STCW CFBS certification in accordance with the latest international and French maritime regulations. Since the Manila Amendments to the STCW code, all professional seafarers must hold a valid STCW-approved Basic Safety Training certificate, and this must be updated every five years to remain compliant. The CFBS, or Certificat de Formation de Base à la Sécurité, is the French equivalent of the STCW Basic Safety Training and is mandatory for anyone seeking employment on board a professional vessel registered in France.
Our STCW CFBS Refresher course is tailored for those who have already completed prior Sea Survival and Fire Fighting training on board or at their workplace within the last five years. This short refresher format does not include the Elementary First Aid component, as it is not always required or may be completed separately depending on individual needs or company policy. The course focuses on updating essential safety knowledge and practical skills to ensure participants can respond effectively to emergencies at sea, including ship abandonment and fire incidents.
The training combines theoretical lessons with practical exercises, ensuring that participants are fully prepared to work safely on board and handle various emergency situations. The STCW CFBS certificate remains valid for five years, after which this refresher is necessary to revalidate your certification and maintain compliance with IMO and French DIRM requirements. Please note that this course is specific to French seafarers and is intended for those who can provide evidence of recent relevant training experience.
