More information about STCW BST & AFF

Our STCW BST & AFF courses are designed to meet the mandatory training requirements for seafarers as set out by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). These courses are approved by the national flagstate and provide internationally recognized certification for those working at sea. The STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) is required for all seafarers with designated safety or pollution-prevention duties, while the STCW Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) is essential for officers and crew members who are responsible for leading or coordinating firefighting operations onboard.

The STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) covers the fundamental skills needed to respond to onboard emergencies, including survival at sea, firefighting, first aid, and personal safety. This certification is valid for five years and must be refreshed every five years to remain compliant. The Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) course builds on the basic firefighting skills and focuses on leadership, coordination, and command during fire emergencies. AFF certification is also valid for five years and requires refresher training if the officer has not served in a fire-related safety role for at least 12 months in the last five years.

To enroll in these courses, participants must bring a valid ID or passport, a medical certificate, swimming gear, and a seafarer’s book. Upon successful completion of both courses, participants receive STCW-compliant certificates that are recognized worldwide. Each module includes practical assessments to ensure that all participants are fully prepared for real-life emergencies at sea.
