OSHA Hazwoper Awareness Course
Course details
The Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) Awareness course is designed to train employees who will most likely witness or discover the release of a hazardous substance and initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release. These employees will take no further action beyond notification of the authorities. This OSHA hazwoper awareness course is conducted in accordance with OSHA 29CFR 1910.120.

The HAZWOPER Awareness training is the basic level. It provides training and education to employees who participate, or are expected to participate, in emergency response operations for releases or threats of releases of hazardous substances without regard to hazard location or their hazard response level. (Hazwoper awareness level training)
Content
- Understand hazardous substances
- Understand the potential outcomes associated with an emergency created when hazardous substances are present
- Gain the ability to recognize the presence of hazardous substances in an emergency
- Gain the ability to identify the hazardous substance, if possible
- Understand their role as a first responder at awareness level (hazwoper first responder awareness training)
- Understand how to notify the communication center for additional resources
