Our GWO Sea Survival (E-learning + Practical) course is specifically designed for professionals working in the offshore wind industry, including those involved in the construction, maintenance, servicing, and inspection of offshore wind turbines and installations. Developed in accordance with Global Wind Organisation (GWO) guidelines, this blended learning program ensures participants gain the essential knowledge and practical skills required to act safely and effectively in potentially dangerous offshore situations, particularly when there is a risk of falling into the water.
The course combines an online theoretical module, which can be completed at home in approximately three hours, with a half-day practical session at one of our FMTC training centers. The practical component takes place in a specially equipped pool, simulating real offshore emergency conditions to maximize learning retention and real-world preparedness. This training is crucial for daily offshore operations such as vessel-to-turbine transfers, emergency evacuations, man-overboard situations, and the use of personal protective and survival equipment at sea. The course also includes the Boat Transfer module.
Upon successful completion of both the e-learning and practical elements, participants receive the GWO Sea Survival certificate, which is valid for two years. GWO provides a 60-day window before the certificate’s expiry for participants to complete a refresher course without altering the original expiry date. If the certificate expires, the full course must be retaken. For those needing to renew, the GWO Refresher E-learning course is available. To participate in the practical session, attendees must bring a valid government-issued photo ID, their WINDA ID (which can be registered at https://winda.globalwindsafety.org), as well as swimwear and a towel. Access to the e-learning platform is provided up to four weeks before the course start date, or immediately upon booking if within this period.
