Course details

This programme is designed for firefighters, fire officers, and emergency response teams who want to strengthen their operational capabilities through the use of drone technology. It is also suitable for public safety professionals interested in incorporating drones into emergency response strategies.

The training provides firefighting personnel with the knowledge and practical skills needed to use drones effectively in firefighting operations. Topics include thermal imaging assessment, practical flight exercises, operating in confined spaces, sensor integration for hazard detection, planning fire countermeasures using drone imagery, livestream integration with fire brigade operations centres, mission planning and execution, and emergency response and incident management.

The Firefighter Drone Operators (FDO) programme is accredited by Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance. Please note that this qualification is not regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales, CCEA, or SQA.

Prerequisites

Must be at least 18 years old
Basic familiarity with drone operations is preferred but not mandatory
Participants must be physically capable of participating in practical exercises
A valid government-issued ID is required for registration
