The NOGEPA 0.5A Basic Offshore Safety is meant and mandatory for those wishing to work on an offshore installation in the North Sea sector.

The NOGEPA 0.5A training program provides basic knowledge of safety regime and safety management, as well as basic level of understanding and awareness of the potential dangers when working on offshore installations. The NOGEPA 0.5A training is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, in which the delegate will be trained in the necessary skills with regards to safety techniques and basic First Aid.

For everyone’s safety it’s of utmost importance to know how someone can bring himself and others in safety in case of accidents and/or problems offshore.

The combination course NOGEPA 0.5A / 0.5C Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS is set for 3 full days. After completion one will receive certifications for NOGEPA 0.5A and NOGEPA 0.5C. The first one is valid for 4 years, while the other does not expire.

Course Content NOGEPA 0.5A:

  • Safety introduction
  • Helicopter safety/HUET/EBS
  • Sea survival & First aid
  • Firefighting & Self rescue

In the Safety Introduction module the delegate will gain theoretical knowledge of different types of offshore platforms, the risks and dangers, managing the safety and life and work at sea.

The Helicopter safety module exists from a theoretical and practical part. The delegate will firstly be informed regarding travelling by helicopter and the risks that may occur during the helicopter flights. By means of the HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) the delegate will undergo a practical training experience in the FMTC training pool.

In the module Sea Survival & First Aid the delegate will learn how to survive on sea and offering First Aid. In the FMTC training pool the delegate will practically learn – in a life raft – how to survive on sea.

The module Firefighting & Self Rescue is about fire safety and firefighting. Besides the theoretical knowledge the skills for Firefighting & Self Rescue will also be conducted in practice. The delegate will learn to fight different fires with the appropriate firefighting equipment.

New module CA-EBS NOGEPA 0.5C

FMTC has added a new module to the NOGEPA 0.5A training, to know the Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS), either the NOGEPA 0.5C CA-EBS.

In the North Sea sector all Dutch and English helicopters are meanwhile equipped with the CA-EBS system. In case this specific CA-EBS system is installed you are not allowed to travel by helicopter without a valid CA-EBS certificate.

  • Important differences between the re-breather and compressed air systems (technology and use)
  • The hazards and risks associated while using the CA-EBS
  • How to use the CA-EBS in case of an emergency situation

What is NOGEPA 0.5A/0.5C Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS?

NOGEPA stands for Netherlands Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Association. CA-EBS stands for Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System, a system that is practiced with throughout this training.

What does the NOGEPA 0.5A/0.5C Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS consist of?

The training consists of a multitude of modules, including helicopter safety, sea survival and First Aid.

How is the NOGEPA 0.5A/0.5C Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS taught?

The NOGEPA 0.5A/0.5C Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS consists of a theoretical and practical part.

What is the purpose of the NOGEPA 0.5A/0.5C Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS?

NOGEPA 0.5A/0.5C Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS will allow the delegate to understand the dangers and risks in the offshore oil and gas industry and how to act accordingly in emergency situations. The delegate will also learn how to save themselves, provide First Aid and fight fires. At succesful completion of the course, the delegate receives an offshore safety training certificate.

How long does the NOGEPA 0.5A/0.5C Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS certificate remain valid?

The 0.5A certificate is only valid for 4 years. After that, the training must be repeated, so the delegate stays sharp and is made aware of new developments. The 0.5C certificate will remain valid indefinitely.

My NOGEPA 0.5A/0.5C Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS certificate is expired. What now?

You will have to take the NOGEPA 0.5A/ Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS course again. Unfortunately, it is impossible to attend the refresher courses. Through NOGEPA, you will have to ask for dispensation. You can find the form for dispensation here.

Is NOGEPA 0.5A/0.5C Basic Offshore Safety / CA-EBS mandatory to work offshore?

Yes, in order to work offshore, OPITO BOSIET or NOGEPA 0.5 basic Offshore Safety are the minimum.

At what time does the training take place?

The training starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends at approximately 4:00 p.m.

Is lunch provided for by FMTC or should I bring this myself?

Lunch is provided by FMTC. You can choose from freshly made sandwiches, snacks, soup and fruit. Tea and coffee are also available.

What do I need to bring to this course?

If you have a Personal Safety Logbook and/or Seaman book, you must bring them in order to have them updated. The required safety materials are provided for by the FMTC.

Note that you will be notified of all required materials in the confirmation e-mail when booking the course.

In which language is this course taught?

All of our courses are taught in English.

At what time should I book a flight back?

We advise you to book your flight 2 hours after the end of the course, at a minimum.

Do I need a physical examination for this course?

NOGEPA courses require an Offshore examination.

When will I have my physical examination if I booked this through FMTC?

After the booking, you will receive a confirmation. In the meantime, a request will be sent to the doctor. The doctor will plan the physical examination. On the following work day at the latest, you will receive the confirmation of your appointment with date, time and location.
